The Basic Principles of Photogrammetry
Scientists consider photogrammetry to be the art, science, and technology of getting information about physical objects and the environment. The information is received by recording, measuring and interpreting photographic images.
There are two aspects of photogrammetry – Quantitative and Qualitative. Quantitative Photogrammetry (metric) involves precision dimensional measurements that give direct information about the size of objects. Qualitative Photogrammetry (interpretative) deals with the recognition and interpretation of objects. Here people also can talk about Analytical Photogrammetry. It deals with the solution of problems by mathematical calculations. Nowadays, it becomes more and more complex.
The materials used in photogrammetry are – photographs, negatives, or diapositives of various types. The basic inputs are the photo-coordinates in x, y system. The measures are taken with the help of cameras or other tools; the data is processed by computers.
