Soils

Surveying is closely connected with geography, geology, and with geomorphology. The knowledge of geography is important for a correct interpretation of the landscape elements such as relief features, natural cover of the earth surface (vegetation, soil, lakes, rivers, etc.) and cultural or man-made features (settlements, roads, means of communication, economic establishments, etc.).

Various forms of relief and the laws of their variation are learnt by geology and geomorphology. The use of photographs in surveying is impossible without the knowledge of photography. By studying topographic drawing one will learn how to compile maps and plans.
